Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Unfortunately I wasn't able to beat this campaign until last night so for those of you who haven't picked up the game, and are still on the fence (which I know some of you are because we've chatted in Gamestop ;) ) this review is for you.

Honestly, the campaign was the best since Modern Warfare 2. It was wildly absurd and brave to venture forward full speed ahead into science fiction territory (unlike the tip toe of Advanced Warfare). So, there's a lot to do in this game, as far as unlockables are concerned, which isn't totally unlike COD but the features are great (the small skill trees we're pretty kickass). Weapon mods felt unique enough to make difference in battle, although it wasn't always easy to tell. The firefights get to be pretty overwhelming sometimes and it's difficult to see what effect your weapons actually have.

The power ups were awesome. I stuck with the "Control" tree because it felt the most balanced. A lot of people praise the bees but I'm not a huge fan. Armor lock ups and robot engine stalls were my thing. I have yet to explore the Martial tree, but Chaos was meh. Splitscreen and Online Co-op were both really great and ran much smoother than I expected, and that was a real treat honestly. I know that some people believe that couch coop is dead, but it's not for us, and we aim to keep it that way.

As far as the narrative is concerned, it's probably the most intelligent out of all of the Call of Duty's. Plot twists aside, which have bred some interesting theories; I was glad to discover, I was pleasantly surprised by its development. AI's are cool. We should explore those more. I was really reminded of Ultron in this particular case, but the way Black Ops 3 treated AI was unique. I won't spoil it if you haven't played through it, but there's some serious discussion that can be had with this story and it's themes. I actually recommend playing this Call of Duty campaign.

Multiplayer has been an issue. Of course servers are bugging and dropping players because there's a million and a half of them. The little I've tried has been fun, but this weekend, with work and school and server issue, very little progress has been made on that front. Zombies. Guys, ZOMBIES. I don't really need to say anything here other than Zombies is outstanding. We've made it to level 14 so far. It's seriously the most difficult of them all and has a really great Lovecraft makeover. Buying Black Ops 3 for it's Zombies is worth it alone.

So, go play it if you have it. Have some ideas or things you want to say about the plot? Go for it, you three or four who've briefly skimmed this small piece. If you don't have it, I recommend buying it. If you don't play Call of Duty, that's okay, this is the game to start that change
